New York Fashion Week: DKNY'S FRESH LOOK
How does a girl stay chic and stylish on a hot summer day without looking like she is headed to the pool? The answer: loose and breezy silks in button-front tunic styles, camisole frocks and boxy top-and-skirt combos. Donna Karan’s DKNY 2012 Spring Collection was a testament to stylish dressing with New York heat in mind.
The “step dress” (and skirt) was a major feature throughout the show, featuring a hemline that was short in front and dipped low in back. I heard one fashionista refer to it as a "mullet hem", but that just reeks of redneck so I much prefer "step dress"!
The color palette was part neutral (cream, black, navy and tan) - and part bright (royal blue, red and hot pink). Monochromatic ensembles gave way to horizontal stripes and all-over florals with an upbeat vibe. To cover up there were plenty of great tailored jackets — a tuxedo style in black and cream and also a fabulous version in hot pink.
