Fabulous Fashion Inspiration, powered by the 'Intel Ultrabook™, the Ultimate Accessory for every Fashionista.

Great fashion is a journey as well as a destination, and there is no more satisfying moment for a fashionista than finding that perfect little something that puts the finishing touch on an ensemble, taking it from so-so to spectacular.  Perhaps it's a truly exquisite handbag that you've had your eye on all season.  Or maybe an edgy pair of earrings.  For me, it's usually a deliciously decadent pair of skyscraper sandals!  No matter the time involved in finding said item, no matter the cost (although you must admit that it is an added bonus when you find a fabulous deal!) and no matter the sacrifices you may have to make (re: ramen noodles for a month), it's that "aha!" moment  you experience when you find that perfect item or accessory that makes the journey worthwhile...and makes the ensemble ROCK.

While every fashionista has her own personal style, it is usually inspired by glimpses of everyday life.  The glint of a raindrop on an intricately woven spider's web inspires you to choose the dress with the sequin-trimmed lace bodice.  That gorgeous color-blocked blouse reminds you of the sun shining through a stained-glass window.  Seeing "Easy Rider" at a local movie theater sparks your selection of an edgy pair of studded leather platform pumps.  Every fashionista finds inspiration in here daily life and environs. Take a look at some of the things that inspire our love of fashion here at She She Me:

I love the way the shimmer of the lake is reflected in the healthy shine of her hair, and the sweet chiffon and lace blouse is so breezy and fresh:

Which inspires my love of shimmer and shine in this embellished satin mini paired with chocolate patent platforms - - gorgeous!

Shimmer, shimmer...and that gorgeous glint of red sole...

Again, inspiration from the earth and the sea in this dip-dye dress, with the shimmering golden pendant as the rising sun...

I adore the contrast of a bright necklace against a creme or white top.  It also works well with black!

The vibrant floral print of this sweet sundress is perfect for a bright summer's day, especially when anchored with neutral sky-high wedges.

Two of my favorite things - fleur-de-lis and butterflies!!  So feminine, so girly, so gorgeous!

I love lace!  It is gorgeous, it is exquisite, it is innocent and seductive at the same time.  The pairing of an itty bitty bit of lace in a stylized tiny metal frame is inspiring...

Lacy footies worn with studded suede platforms.  Gotta love the edgy/feminine vibe

I love the combination of a lace-backed blazer with classic pastel basics...

And who said a portable tote bag had to be boring?  I adore this floral pastel bag from Saky Sacks - Squishable, Scrunchable Squashable, Ultra-Compact and Portable.  It's fashion on-the-go!

What fashionista doesn't love a closet full of designer shoes?  Especially if she can find them on sale!

I adore all things vintage, like this fun radio, which inspires...

!

My love of vintage inspired jewelry!  This teeny tiny birdcage pendant has a teeny tiny clock on the bottom!  Vintage, versatile and very fun!

The crème de la crème of accessories - a vintage wedding ring!

The Perfect Wardrobe

Things aren’t supposed to happen in the summer. Humans, I’m sure, are meant to cast away their cares and luxuriate in long sunny summer afternoons, cat napping and reading the latest glossies, giving ourselves cooling cucumber at-home masks, and contemplating what ripe summer fruit to snack on next.

That was not my experience last Monday afternoon, as I was scarfing down my deli sandwich and salt and vinegar chips, dripping in the heat, on my way back to the office to make it to a meeting with my boss. I made it just in time to clean up and look presentable from the hurried lunch and sweltering heat outside.

As I was sitting in the air conditioned office my boss brought up my stint in Chicago last year, and asked how I liked it. I told her I LOVED it. The city was so friendly, so pretty, and while the work was hard, it was fulfilling. She smiled, said it was good to hear, and proceeded to tell me that the company has decided to transfer me to Chicago if I’d like to accept the offer. Start date: Two weeks.
WHAT?!

No, wait, what?!

I guess I said yes, because here I am, feeling wildly overwhelmed with my growing to-do list, not at all luxuriating in long sunny summer afternoons. There isn’t even hope in the near future to fulfill my lazy summer destiny. Ugh.

On the positive side, while the movers will pack up all my precious possessions, they are NOT going to touch my closet, so I get to tackle that tonight with clean hands and great care. First and foremost I need to pull from that blessed closet items to pack into my suitcase. I will beat the movers to Chicago, and I’ll be too busy to unpack for a little while, so I need to plan on living out of my suitcase for maybe two-ish weeks. Perfect. This is just the type of task I love to tackle.
.
Skirt: While I adore a good maxi skirt and I’m fairly certain I cut the most striking figure in an A-line skirt, I just got this new delightful pencil skirt, so obviously I can’t stand to part with it! I love the texture, cheery yet neutral color, and the cute name. I’m a sucker for a well-named item.

Blazer: An absolute must. It’s a game changer. The blazer will take my outfit from dull to polished in under ten seconds. So fast! I’ll find a lightweight one for summer. Something that says, “I may be cute, but it behooves you to take me seriously. This blazer is your warning.” Or some statement to that effect, anyway.

Dress:  I will bring one that can go to work but also take me out on the town or to the farmers market on weekends. This one shows a little skin after work, but is perfectly office appropriate under a cute cardigan. No one at work needs to know about that twist in the back. Shh, it will be our secret! (If you aren’t good at keeping secrets, this dress is fabulous too. And I love this sweet surplice dress.)

Fancy shorts:  I’m talking about shorts that can go to the office. Something in a dark neutral will work well, black, brown, or grey are great. Mid thigh or lower, no bums need make an appearance in the work place. Fancy shorts are already pushing the dress code in some offices, but when paired with a structured blazer, the look is sharp and fresh.

Cardigan: A cardigan is an absolute must! They are so perfect for frigid offices, and make a great layering piece.  It will probably be the workhorse of my wardrobe, so it must be easy to care for. I’ll bring one in a color or print that goes with the palate of the other items in my suitcase.

Button down: But not white. Everyone tells you that you can do anything with white, and you can, but you also have to get it laundered more frequently. Eye roll. So a cute printed blouse will come with me, and will also be so trendy.

Striped top: A striped top will add interest and also celebrates summer with a nod to the nautical in a gorgeous blue and white or red and white. So many styles to choose from, I might like one with a boat neck and cute button detail.

Pants: Because I need to take these to work and play –and I’m so tired of trousers for the summer—I’m going to bring a bright blue denim pant. They will play well with my button down and striped top. Add classy cap toe flats, maybe my cardigan and scarf, and I’m good to go! On the weekend I can roll my pants and wear sandals, and my outfit is now a bit more casual.

Accessories: Last but not least, I will bring along my luscious leather shoulder bag, an interesting scarf, perfect cap toe flats and strappy sandals. Perfect. Let’s put all of this into action! Here are a few combos I came up with:
  • Monday: Striped top + skirt + strappy sandals
  • Tuesday: Button down, tied at the waist + blue denim +cap toe flats + scarf
  • Wednesday: Dress +cardigan + cap toe flats
  • Thursday: Striped top + blazer + fancy shorts + strappy sandals
  • Friday: Striped top + blue denim + cardigan + strappy sandals
  • Saturday: Dress + scarf + cap toe flats
  • Sunday: pajamas/ tee and shorts
  • Repeat
Looks like I’m good to go while I wait for the rest of my lovely closet to show up. I’ll see you in my new city, Chicago!

END THE FIGHT WITH FLY-AWAYS

Like Spiderman against the Green Goblin and Jennifer Aniston versus Angelina Jolie, the battles rages on between archenemies: it’s your hair versus those pesky fly-aways. Finally the kryptonite to end the fight has arrived with hair-hero David John, master stylist and colorist at the Serge Normant at John Frieda Salon in Los Angeles.

Reign supreme over those troublesome teases with David’s trusty tips:

Dryer Sheet: It’s your secret weapon for combating static. Use a dryer sheet on your fully blown-dry hair and without weighing your locks down, the electricity will be taken out. To avoid doubling up on fragrances, find unscented sheets. Simple and small, these static-stoppers are easy to throw in your pocket or purse.

Lotion: If you find yourself without a dryer sheet, not to worry, hand lotion can do the trick. Moisturize your hands and then lightly run them over the top of the hair. This will help nourish and weigh down the fly-aways.

Secret Weapon: JohnFrieda Secret Weapon Flawless Finishing Creme will smooth out dry flyaway hair while adding shine. Start with a pea size amount in your hand and work evenly through blow-dried hair or to keep hair controlled and smooth, apply to wet hair before air or blow-drying.

Sayonara fly-aways, you have met your match!
