After exposure to international travel at young ages, they discovered that in order to understand poverty and marginalized societies – they needed to live among them. Experiencing the horrible results of extreme poverty first-hand, David and Mel realized that small business development was an incredible tool to bring sustainable solutions that created culture-shifting, thriving communities.

Motivated by a strong passion to connect artisans with markets, JOYN helps people struggling with addiction, disease, caste, disability, abuse and all the difficulties of life. Using traditional Indian techniques, these skilled artisans do 100% of the work and within five years, JOYN is sustaining over 300 full-time jobs among the most marginalized people in the world.
